“In a gentle way, you can shake the world” – Gandhi

It’s said that if you aren’t part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem.  This is a harsh way of putting it, but it’s honestly true.  When our minds are filled with torment and chaos, that’s inevitably what we present to others (and keep experiencing more of, ourselves.)  It’s so easy to fall into the trap of observing everything that’s wrong with the world, becoming infuriated and/or argumentative, and ultimately getting nowhere. No one’s better off from any of it. In that negative state, we can’t formulate the clarity of consciousness that’s actually required to create positive change.

Possibly the greatest thing we can do to begin changing the world is to actively change our own mindset.  Being gentle and loving to ourselves and everyone we come into contact with, in our minds and our actions ~ spreads peace as we go through our days.  This loving kindness is what [we] and the world so desperately need.  What we focus on grows, and with conscious repetition this will become easier over time. “Be the change that you want to see” – Gandhi

Instead of having a thought of judgment or criticism, try having a complimentary one instead, and notice how differently it feels in your body. Be easy on yourself and others. We’re all doing the best we can at any given time. Not everyone has the privilege to live and grow in a safe environment conducive to inner reflection, open-mindedness and thoughtfulness. But by getting in touch with our sensitive nature and letting go of negative thoughts within, we break the cycle of violence and trauma that has survived generationally (unconsciously) since possibly the beginning of time. We have to think critically about the way we were raised (and how it was a result of the way their parents spoke to them and their parents before them and so-on) because it actually becomes our inner voices as adults.

If you find that you are really hard on yourself, try treating yourself very gently and lovingly ~ and see what positive changes happen as a result. All of this will make us leaders in pioneering a new, more peaceful world.
