Propagating Peace

The idea behind my blog’s title is essentially the same idea as what takes place when propagating a plant. Just as you would take a cutting to grow a new plant, one’s peacefulness can rub off on another, allowing a new paradigm to grow within them. In our society we aren’t necessarily raised in a calm atmosphere, so we don’t inherently know what it’s like to be at ease…it’s something that we have to cultivate for ourselves. Especially if our parents didn’t have the space of presence within them, they couldn’t teach us what they didn’t know. Most people deal with huge amounts of stress from all angles of life, so it’s very understandable. We all deserve a break from the chaos.

Ways to cultivate inner peace could be pulling away from the media— turning off the TV & phone and ignoring social media for a while, breathing deeply down into our belly and just experiencing the moment can calm us down and be incredibly transformative. When we’re calm we have the mental space to think clearly. We can forgive and let go of pain, understand things from a new perspective, and gain insights that can change the way we live. We may even have new ideas for things we’ve never done before, or discover (or rediscover) a love for a certain hobby. For me, I love caring for and connecting with my different pets and plants.  We are all part of nature, and I believe that all beings’ natural state is peacefulness once our basic needs are met.  When you take care of yourself and the others you’re responsible for properly, over time you see that you all flourish.

As you experience nature you become one with it. I think we’re intrinsically one with nature, we just don’t grow up knowing it.  Our bodies are 90% water. Our breath becomes one with the wind.  We grow just as the trees and plants do.  Taking care of that growth by giving ourselves what we really need (and crave) is what makes all the difference in the world.  We all just need some care, some quiet, and some nature. Then we can explore who we are meant to be.

As humans we have become so detached and disconnected from the earth, some of us never setting foot outside during the day.  Whether you live in a city, or you have some other limiting circumstance, it’s not always something that can be done easily.  Bringing nature into your life by caring for houseplants, an aquarium, and/or having a furry friend helps propagate peace in your space. I feel so lucky and grateful to have my little place in the world, to just be able to go outside and relax. For me, caring for my sweet family, being mindful about my home, and tending to my plants, my cat, tortoise, betta fish, and (my son’s) hamster, and seeing everyone flourish helps to foster a sense of inner peace and accomplishment.  The more we connect with nature and disconnect from the chaos of the world, the better we feel, and the more we want others to experience that contentment too.

What are some of your favorite ways to connect with nature?
